Highland village Karmi also known as Karaman is probably the prettiest village in Northern Cyprus. Set deep in the mountainside to the west of Kyrenia, Karmi is all about authentic all traditional stone villas, whitewashed cottages, skinny alleys, and impeccable gardens.
Karmi with its brushed-up facade houses is a truly Mediterranean-styled village inhabited mostly by British and German expatriates. The houses, located on the hillside, are connected by narrow paved streets and steps of limestone. The village is blossoming, its streets are strewn with almond, tangerine, orange, pomegranate, and fig trees.
One of the main local attractions – the ancient castle of Saint Hilarion laying above the village. While visiting Karmi, you may find yourself on an enjoyable hike starting from the village straight to the castle, exploring the historical heritage of Northern Cyprus.
In its central square, Karmi holds the old Greek Orthodox Church, which is currently converted to a museum, where icons, collected by locals from abandoned churches, are displayed. This church is the center of Karmi’s social life, many festivals and concerts are held there.
Come visit Karmi and get a taste of its peace and charm. Wonder around the wriggling narrow streets, stop by a pub, and enjoy the seasonal floral surroundings.
